Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is the process by which a library requests material from, or supplies material to, another library. ILL allows students and faculty to obtain materials from other libraries that are not held at the Marine Corps Research Library (MCRL), or currently unavailable but urgently needed (MCRL books that are checked out when a patron needs them).
Some notes on this service:
A. You must be an authorized Marine Corps Research Library (MCRL)/Quantico Base Library (QBL) patron with a current library card.
B. The resource must be unavailable for check out/use under your patron type:
i. MCU Faculty and MCU Students are the only authorized users of our databases offsite - by legal agreements.
ii. All copies of a book in our holdings must be checked out to request the same book as an ILL.
iii. We cannot ILL from international libraries due to military mail restrictions.
iv. Libraries may not loan video materials or audio book materials.
C. You can request an ILL via a physical form - if you are physically at the building (during normal duty hours) OR
D. You can Email the ILL Group Email: firstname.lastname@example.org (This is THE preferred Email for ILLs and will minimize any delays in processing your request).
E. If the resource is available, you will receive an Email notification when it is available for pick up (physical items) or it will be Emailed to you (Electronic items - articles and copies). Physical items may be picked up at the MCRL or QBL Circulation Desk.
F. If the resource is not available you will receive an Email notifying you of that circumstance.
G. You should provide as much information as possible for your request to aid in finding the resource:
i. Books: Title, Author(s), Edition/Published Year, ISBN, Publisher.
ii. Articles: Article Title, Author(s), Journal Title, Journal Volume/Number/Issue, Publisher.
H. ILL processing times.
i. Articles may be received between one to seven days, depending on the lender processing time.
ii. Books may be received between one to three weeks, depending on the lender processing time and mail delivery time.
NOTE 1: You may also provide any links to the resource that will aid in finding your request.
NOTE 2: U.S. Copyright Law applies to requests (Limits the number of pages requested for copies and the number of articles from a single journal).
