Guide to using eBooks provided by the Library of the Marine Corps.


Below is a list of the ebook Collections to which we subscribe. EBSCO, EBook Central and Navy Digital Library program allow users to download eBooks to personal devices and computers.

Click on the blue info circles (i) for important information on who can access the different ebook collections, and how to access them.

Our two biggest providers of ebooks are ProQuest EBook Central and EBSCO. This chart outlines the differences between the two.

EBook Central is a collection of over 80,000 e-book titles.

The books in this collection cover a variety of topics, ranging from political science, social sciences, history, IT, military history, and more.

EBSCO’s eBook Academic Collection includes multidisciplinary e-book titles representing a broad range of academic subject matter, ensuring that you’ll have access to information relevant to your research needs, all with a user-friendly search experience and simple download process. 

Notable publishers and university presses include Elsevier Ltd., Taylor & Francis Ltd., John Wiley & Sons, Inc., Sage Publications, Ltd., Harvard University Press, Oxford University Press, and many more.

  • Conduct a search – Use simple or advanced.
  • Open a document – Click on the title name or jacket.
  • Explore the document – Navigate to search terms, search for key words, jump to relevant chapters, flip through pages.
  • Highlight text and take notes – Create a bookshelf to save and organize your research.
  • Use InfoTools – Link out to other online resources to expand your research.
  • Print pages, and copy and paste text – ebrary provides automatic citations with a URL hyperlink back to the source.


  • Browse eBooks by subject area
  • View an eBook's Table of Contents from the Search Result List
  • Navigate to eBook chapters or sections directly from Result List and Detail Record
  • Search within an eBook for specific terms, yielding a list of hyperlinked pages


Print & Download


  • You can copy and print either one chapter,
    or up to 40 pages.


  • Typically, you can save or print up to 60 pages. The number of pages may vary depending on individual publisher-specified limits.

User Limits


  • Unlimited



  • EBSCO allows one user at a time to check out an eBook.
  • Concurrent users can look at an eBook online, but cannot borrow it.
  • If someone has downloaded the eBook, other users can place a hold on it and borrow it once it becomes available (just like print books).
