The small wars of the Marine Corps play an important part in Marine Corps history - and a provide a foundation for understanding modern-day irregular warfare and counterinsurgency operations.

Following the end of the Spanish-American War, U.S. Marines established a presence at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, which served primarily as a training area for Carribean forces. (Source)
