About Wounded Warrior Regiment

The Wounded Warrior Regiment was established in 2007 to ensure coordinated delivery of resources and services to wounded, ill and injured (WII) Marines, Sailors directly supporting Marines, and their families. The WWR administers the Marine Corps’ federally mandated Recovery Coordination Program, which seeks to integrate Marines’ medical and non- medical care. The regiment achieves its mission through four lines of operation: mind, body, spirit, and family.  WWR care is not a process, it is a relationship.

As a military unit, the WWR enables successful recovery and transition for WII Marines.  Marines requiring acute care can be joined to the regiment, allowing them to focus on recovery while maintaining the Marine mindset that breeds success in overcoming obstacles.  Further, parent units remain focused on the fight, ready to receive their Marine again if and when they are capable to return to regular duty.

Recovery care for our Marines must be enduring because the injuries and illnesses from over a decade of war are enduring.  Catastrophic injuries, post-traumatic stress (PTS), traumatic brain injury (TBI), and other psychological health problems require long-term, often acute, care.  Accordingly, the WWR mission is an enduring commitment that will care for WII Marines in times of war and peace.
