Battle Studies: Bull Run/First Manassas

On July 21, 1861, the Union and Confederate armies clashed for the first time in the Civil War, on the fields of Manassas, Virginia, overlooking Bull Run.

What's in a Name?

Ever wonder why you see the terms "Bull Run" and "Manassas" interchaged when describing this Civil War battle?

Northerners called it the "First Battle of Bull Run" but in the South where it was fought, it became known as "First Manassas." (Source: A&E Civil War Combat)
