San Pasqual

On 6-7 December 1846, one of the most controversial battles of the Mexican-American War took place at what is now San Diego, CA. It was also one of the few military battles that involved the US Army, Marines, Navy, and civilian volunteers.

Featured in "Fortitudine: Newsletter of the Marine Corps Historical Program," volume 5, number 2, (p. 8). An account of the operations in California written by Jacob Zeilin, Commandant of the Marine Corps from 1864-1876. In his five-page report Zeilin describes landing at Monterey on 15 July 1846 and subsequent actions at Santa Barbara, San Pedro, and Los Angeles.
